Overall School Prize
Points are awarded according to the position in each category being 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 3 points etc. For each race there is a Boys and a Girls category (so eight categories in total).
To qualify for the overall school prize a school must start runners in at least 3 different age categories (allowing comprehensives, prep. schools, sixth form colleges, single sex schools to be included in the competition). Each school's best four positions are determined regardless of category and are added together with the lowest total being declared the winner. In the event of a tie, then the school with the highest number of first places, then second places etc. wins. So, if Team A has (1, 2, 2, 4) = 9 and Team B has (2, 2, 2, 3) = 9 then Team A will win by virtue of the first place.
The overall school trophy is the FRA Cup which was first presented in 2008 to Ermystead (an all boys school). In 2023 the victors were Ilkley GS with (1, 3, 6, 6) = 16 points. It's all to run for in 2024.
Please check the FRA website Fellrunner — English Schools and the FRA Juniors Facebook page for the latest information.
This is a competition for Year 7 and above. Most schools will enter pupils (but in some cases Parent or Guardian must make the entry) - please check with your school. If making an entry on behalf of a pupil please ensure that the name of the school is correctly stated.
If your child is joining a new school in September and wishes to run then please make sure the school is aware of the competition.
We look forward to welcoming you to Giggleswick on 6th October.
